At the age of five, Pratap had lost both his hands and legs in an incident due to which he had to stay confined to his home for ten years. He could not go to school, but at the age of 29, today, he is designated as Financial and Accounts Officer at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Ahmedabad. Before acquiring the job he completed an MBA in finance.

How did the misfortune occur?
Pratap originally belongs to Hyderabad. When he was five-year-old, his friends had staked a bet that nobody could bend an open electric rod. Since Pratap was immature at that time, he accepted the challenge. However, as soon as he touched the rod, he experienced a high voltage electric shock. Consequently, his hands and legs got severely burnt and had to be amputated.

Remained confined within home for 10 years:
After this incident, Pratap had become like a prisoner in his own home. For ten years he did not step out of the house. No wonder, he could not attend a regular school either. A time came when even his parents had started considering him a burden. If there was a visitor at home, his father did not let him meet Pratap – perhaps he was ashamed of the son.

Pratap learned to walk on his knees and write with his elbows:
Until the age of 16, Pratap could not go to school. His three sisters proved to be his pillars of strength.  Pratap would read their books. After growing a bit older, he started trying to walk on his knees, but they were often bruised with the effort. He did not lose his courage and finally learned how to walk on his knees. He learned to hold and pick up things with the help of his jaws and elbows.
Of course, he faced many troubles initially, but today he is able to write and operate a computer with the help of his elbows. At the ONGC office, he is seen skillfully operating a computer. He walks without any support and even uses public transport easily. Living in a quarter provided by the company, he does all his work from preparing his meals to washing his clothes on his own.

He got customized sandals made to step out of the house:
Pratap pursued his education for classes 10th and 12th at home. He would step out of the house only to appear for exams. For this purpose, he got special sandals made by a cobbler. No cobbler was ready even to make the customized sandals but at last, one agreed.
Pratap finished his B.Com and MBA in finance from Hyderabad’s Osmania University. In fact, he even aced a scholarship from National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled Pupil.

Job eluded him:
After finishing MBA, Pratap got many interview calls for jobs, but the interview panel’s attitude towards him changed after meeting him. Nobody was ready to believe that he would be able to complete the tasks assigned to him and for this reason, many people refused to grant him a job opportunity. Pratap did not accept defeat and kept on applying to various jobs. Finally, he got the post of Assistant Manager at National Housing Bank. Later, he became Finance and Accounts Officer at ONGC, Ahmedabad.

The Indian Entertainer team is proud of Pratap’s courage and perseverance despite all odds because of which he has been able to turn around the attitudes of people towards him. It was only because of his sheer determination that today his colleagues praise his talents and working capacity to the hilt! His father who had once given up on him once now considers Pratap in a different light. For his countrymen, Pratap sends out the message to eliminate discrimination against the differently-abled people so that they too can prove their mettle. We hope that people are listening

Persistence of VIP cultureConflicting reports surfaced in Bengaluru that an ambulance was held up in traffic for 25 minutes so that Karnataka CM’s convoy could pass. The cries and pleas of the relative of the patient went in vain and the police were unmoved. Even though it was not clear about the fatality of the patient, the public was disgruntled by the behavior of the police which was naturally directed towards the Karnataka CM. This is not the first time a Chief Minister’s convoy brings public life to halt; it is a common phenomenon across India. We have seen other instances where trains have been held up and sometimes airlines staffs get castigated for not waiting for a VIP.
No change in attitudeIndia has often fumed about the VIP culture of politicians, their huge security convoys and the expenditure of tax payers money which comes along with it. Most of the politicians have shown little intent to end this VIP culture and it has cost a few lives until now. The incident involving the Karnataka CM is a malaise, a cancer spread across the political class, for whom it is these convoys and other perks which lure politicians for high posts.
But once again, many of the common citizens will go about their daily lives without having the time to spare a thought for the victim and letting the politicians off the hook or it could be public anger can bring about a drastic change in this behavior of politicians.
But the tough questions remains
1. Why do we wait till something as bad as this to happen before we rise up from our slumber?
2. Why do politicians need security from the very people who they vote?
3. Do politicians have huge convoys when they come and seek vote?
The Indian Entertainer condemns this attitude of the politician, the Karnataka CM in this case and our condolences goes out to the family of the bereaved. Be it traffic, poor roads or a seat on a train, or catching the flight on time — the rules which apply for the commoners should be applied for all. It is time that public becomes intolerant to VIP culture.

Stimulating Video Shows How Today’s Women Have Broken All The Shackles To Fly High

Stimulating Video Shows How Today’s Women Have Broken All The Shackles To Fly High

BY THE INDIAN ENTERTAINER

As India has stepped forward, women have broken the shackles and crossed the lines that kept them behind the closed walls. Their foray into the world of sports has been extremely successful and exciting. This shift in the paradigm has blessed India with a Sania Mirza of tennis, a Saina Nehwal of Badminton and a Mary Kom of boxing. The reason behind these personalities becoming common household name was undoubtedly a result of their hard work and dedication, accompanied by the large-scale support of the masses.
In a similar fashion, Kabaddi as a sport has been gaining track amongst women, a sport that originally started in India is finally finding its roots back. In the past few years, India’s women Kabaddi team has displayed some exuberant performances. From 2012 to 2014 they consecutively won the Kabaddi World Cup and brought laurels for our country. All this success and achievement goes unnoticed because it lacks sufficient media coverage and there is a dearth of encouragement from us; the viewers!
Thankfully Star Sports has taken the initiative of propagating the sport and has come up with Women’s Kabaddi Challenge; we believe that this will provide a platform for all the aspiring women athletes who are yearning to make a mark in the world of Kabaddi.
Our love and support will surely encourage all the participants and history states that our soil has produced some of the most remarkable women athletes in the world. Kabaddi is our country’s legacy, let’s cheer for these young ladies aloud so that the world hears them. It is time India stands for its brave and sporty daughters.

Lost his leg and compensated finally
After losing his leg in a road accident seven years ago in 2009, youth gets compensated with over Rs 50 lakh by Thane Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT). The accident involved a truck and the two wheeler. The driver of the truck, the owner and The New India Assurance Company have been directed to jointly pay the compensation to the claimant — Santosh Prabhakar Singeri.
Santosh’s advocate Baldev B Rajput told MACT that Santosh was 13-year-old at the time of the accident. The Ulhasnagar township resident was riding the pillion of a motorbike driven by his father on November 7, 2009. A speeding truck hit them on their way. Santosh fell from the bike and the truck ran over his legs. The injury was so severe that his left leg was amputated. Since the truck driver nor the owner of the truck appeared before MACT, the decision was taken after listening to only one side. The judge opined that the applicant’s oral evidence suggests that the accident happened due to the negligence of the truck driver.  The applicant’s disability became a hurdle for him. He will be getting a compensation of Rs 50,18,979. In another judgement, the tribunal awarded Rs 9,69,334 compensation to Santosh’s father S A Singeri, who was also injured in the same accident and had lodged the claim.

The Indian Entertainer is content that compensation has been disbursed to the victims, we request the government and the judiciary to speed up the process of justice delivery so that the victims could be compensated timely and adequately.

Dwaraknath Deshmukh was an Indian Civil servant who went on to become the first Indian national to govern the RBI, he was also the third governor of RBI from the time of its institution. The RBI as we know was established by the British and governed by two Britishers before the baton was passed to an Indian. Even when Dwaraknath Deshmukh took over the reigns at the Reserve Bank of India, India was yet to attain independence.

Mr. Deshmukh overlooked some of the crucial phases of RBI’s history that included
1. Overlooking the division of assets between India and Pakistan after partition
2. Nationalizing of RBI from being a shareholder institution.
Mr. Deshmukh was the representative for India at the Breton Woods Conference which resulted in the formation of International Monetary Fund besides becoming a board of director in the IMF.

Finance Minister
His financial acumen earned the respect of Nehru, who was quick to induct him as the finance minister of post independent India. He would go on to become the founding member of National Council Of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). He had eventually resigned from the post in protest of linguistic re-organisation of states, a re-organization that would make Bombay the capital of a larger region that included non-Marathi population. Deshmukh went on to play leading roles in UGC, Delhi University and also came third in the presidential elections when contested.

The Indian Entertainer thanks Deshmukh for his pioneering contributions to India’s economy and finance.

Banking at the touch of a smartphone surely seemed to be a blessing; with almost everything depending on the Registered Mobile Number which also acted as an identity proof. But lately, this ease in banking procedures has turned to be an ease in thefts too.

What really happened?
A resident of Mumbai, a 72-year-old woman, received an SMS from her bank that 11 lakhs had been withdrawn from her bank account. Unable to put a finger on the reason for the withdrawal, she demanded a clear picture of what had happened and was astonished to know that the money withdrawn from her account had been the work of con men who had used the money to book flight tickets.

How is it done?
The theft was committed through “SIM-cloning”. Her sim had been “cloned”. SIM-cloning is a type of Cyber Crime in which the fraudsters duplicate your sim either through specialised software which contains a SIM reader, which copies all the information of a SIM card onto another. This is put to effect when you receive calls or SMSs from these fraudsters, and in a matter of minutes, your SIM has been cloned. The cloned SIM card is then used to make calls to your bank or reset your bank account details using text message verification, and money from your account can be withdrawn.

How to protect yourself from it?
Check your mobile bill frequently. In the case of any unknown numbers dialed from your phone, which you do not recognize, contact your bank immediately. If you suspect any fishy activity, then change your phone number in your bank account details. It could also be safe to use another phone number for your banking needs. Installing anti-virus software, creating complicated passwords, hiding your mobile number on social media, will all prove instrumental in avoiding such thefts. In some cases, it is also advised to avoid taking calls which begin with +92, +90, and +09.

From the next year, class XII board exam marks may carry less weightage than the currently prescribed 40 per cent for the National Institutes of Technology (NIT).  The Central government has taken a decision to roll back its earlier decision of assigning 40 per cent weightage to class XII board examination marks and 60 per cent weightage to the candidate’s JEE (Main) performance for admissions in NIT.
The HRD Minister Smriti Irani, who is also the chairman of NIT Council, has decided that from 2017, NITs  will not calculate ranks based on Board performance. They will follow the IIT rule of granting admission to candidates, who apart from qualifying JEE (Advanced)  are either in the top 20 percentile of his or her school Board or has scored at least 75 per cent.
The earlier decision of giving weightage to Board performance was taken by the then UPA government under the former HRD Minister Kapil Sibal. He argued that with such decision, students will focus more on school education than only on coaching classes. But last three years report suggests that the number of tuition goers has increased to four per cent.  That is why a decision has been taken to revert to the old structure.

Indian Entertainer hopes this decision brings relief to the students who suddenly get burdened after class 10th. Preparing both for competitive exams and board exams with same dedication is almost impossible for most of the students.
